Dayton Larry "Larry" Mullen
August 15, 1921 – November 17, 2012
Dayton L. “Larry” Mullen, age 91, of North Canton, died Saturday evening, November 17, 2012 in his home. He was born August 15, 1921 in Broad Top City, PA to the late Arthur and Mary (Abbott) Mullen.
He had been a resident of Canton since 1951. He retired from the Nationwide Insurance Co. claims department after 33 years of service and was employed by Allen Keith Construction for 29 ½ years. He was a member of Church of the Lakes United Methodist, the Grasshoppers, Adoniram Lodge 517 F&AM and Yusef Khan Grotto of Akron, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Canton as a 32nd degree Mason. He was a veteran of the US Marine Corps who served overseas during WWII. Larry attended Villanova College in Villanova, PA and was graduated from Kent State University with degrees in Education and Business Administration. He was a member of Phi Beta Phi fraternity at Kent State University.
Larry was an avid hunter and enjoyed golfing, and bowling in numerous leagues. One of his favorite activities was watching his granddaughter, Sarah, participate in horse shows.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth “Betty” Mullen in 2007. He is survived by his daughter, Jane (Pete) Shaheen of North Canton; son, Larry (Andrea) Mullen of Fullerton, CA; grandchildren, Brian Mullen and Sarah Shaheen.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday in the Karlo-Libby Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. Bryan George officiating. Entombment in Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. Friends may call from 6-8pm on Tuesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Church of the Lakes United Methodist, 5944 Fulton Drive Northwest, Canton, OH 44718.

The true measure of greatness in a man can be found by looking into the hearts of those family members he loved, nurtured and left behind. Larry Mullen has left some beautiful footprints in the sand! His was a great life well lived and he left a beautiful family to show that his life was truly worthwhile.

The Mullen Family,
Very sorry to hear of Larry's passing. I used to bowl with him in the North Canton Elks league at Park Center. We were on the same team for a number of years. I got to know Larry & Betty well. Would run into him from time to time after the bowling league broke up. Always enjoyed seeing him. My deepest sympathy.
