Evelyn J. Whalen, age 104, of North Canton, passed away Sunday, April 22, 2018. She was born January 13, 1914 in Canton, Ohio to the late Fred and Anna (Fox) Schneider. Evelyn was a graduate of McKinley High School, and worked in the ballrooms in Detroit in the 1930s. She married Eddie Whalen, a jockey agent, and moved to California. Evelyn was an active member of Community Christian Church, North Canton, and was a life member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Edward Daniel Whalen in 1993; sisters, Viola Howick, and Helen Dobson; and brother, Jack Schneider. She is survived by her niece, Linda (Richard) Fowler; nephews, L. Robert Howick, and H. William (Joan) Howick; great nieces and great nephews, Stephanie (Chris) Heck, Stephen (Karla) Fowler, David Howick, Richard (Kathleen) Howick, Kelly (Robby) Mockler, Audra (Nick) McGregor, Adam (Loan) Kline, and Andrew (Michelle) Kline; and numerous great-great nieces and great-great nephews.
Friends may call from 5:00-6:00pm on Thursday in the Karlo-Libby Funeral Home. A brief prayer service will follow at 6:00pm. Interment will be in Riverside National Cemetery, Riverside, California.
