
Mrs. Chivers was born on January 15, 1926, in Washington, PA to William Burry and Jean Burry. She graduated from Washington High School and attended Washington Female Seminary. After graduation she was employed as a secretary and bookkeeper for Drakenfeld Ceramic Products. She married James Chivers in 1948.
Grace was a member of the Presbyterian Church in all her varied residences. She belonged to various chapters of the League of Women Voters and was active in the Stark County Juvenile Justice Court System and was awarded the Freedom Bell Award for her long service as a volunteer.
Mrs. Chivers was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, James Robert Chivers. She is survived by a son, James Robert Chivers Jr. (Mary Alice) and a daughter, Jean (James E.) Stahler; two grandchildren, James Robert Stahler (Brenda) and Jessica Middleton (Joseph); five great-grandchildren, Damian and Brendan Middleton; Caleb, Joshua, and Levi Stahler.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Canton Christian Home and Crossroads Hospice for their loving care of Grace.
Memorial donations may be made to the Association for Benevolent Care (ABC) that provides financial assistance to residents of the Canton Christian Home who are facing financial hardship. ABC, 2550 Cleveland Ave. NW, Canton, OH 44709.
Private graveside services will be held later. Inurnment will be in North Canton Cemetery. There will be no calling hours.
