1938 – 2025
Hubert Wesley Snyder, known to family and friends as Wes, passed away peacefully in the home he built in 1962 in Canal Fulton, Ohio, on October 8, 2025, at the age of 87.
Wes was preceded in death by his parents, Hubert Lafayette and Mary (Ruip) Snyder; his brothers, Gary and Daryl Snyder; nephew Danny Snyder; stepsons: Jamie Jackson and Jay Jackson; and grandson, AJ Snyder.
Wes worked as a tool and die maker for Akron Tool & Die for 40+ years. Known for his precision craftsmanship, his work was shipped across the United States and as far away as Australia. Outside of work, Wes loved spending time in his garden and manufacturing special tools and repair parts in his home shop. A private pilot, he enjoyed flying adventures with his son, Wes Jr., his best friend, Amos Kessler, and his former employer and friend, Robert “Bob” Magee.
Family was at the center of Wes’s life. He was happiest sitting on the deck of his backyard, surrounded by loved ones. He especially enjoyed gardening with his grandchildren, teaching them to pick vegetables fresh from the garden. On special occasions, Wes could be persuaded to play the accordion—an instrument he learned as a young man and brought joy to those around him.
He is survived by the love of his life, Peggy Ann Snyder, with whom he shared 33 wonderful years; his brother Denny Snyder and his sister Cheryl (Greg) Franks; his children: Wes Snyder Jr. (Tammy) of Canal Fulton, OH; Carolyn Jolley (Rudy) of Little Rock, AR; and Arthur Snyder (Tish) of El Paso, TX; as well as his stepdaughter, Renee (Jim) Gregory, of Rittman, OH. Wes was blessed with grandchildren: Danielle (Kevin) Steiner, Alyce (Jamie) Obee, Tiffany Snyder, Kathleen (Brad) Andrews, Ashley Goetsch, Jessica (Joe) Mobley, Travis Gregory, and Jake Gregory; great-grandchildren: Madeline Snyder (Mitchelle Gray), Carter Steiner, Silas Steiner, Mia Steiner, Gavin Obee, Aubrey Obee, Valerie Goetsch, Benjammin Goetsch, Nikko Edwards, Daisy Andrews, Alize Snyder, and Arthur J Snyder III; great-great-grandchildren: Grayson Gray, Eva, and Jackson Mobley; nieces: Mandy (Dave) Corbin, Nikki (Brett) Kisner; nephews Cliff (Danyiel) Franks, Mark (Terri) Snyder; Andrew Snyder, and Gary Snyder Jr; great nieces Taylor Corbin, April Franks; Mia Maroni, Shelby Kisner; great nephews Matt Franks, AJ Franks, Ben Franks, and John Franks, Brett and Joel Kisner. Last but not least, he is survived by his faithful and ornery Dachshund, Squiggly Down Under Foot.
In place of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Canal Creative (CanalCreativeOH.com), a nonprofit supporting the Canal Fulton community, reflecting Wes’s lifelong love for the place he called home and raised his children.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the caring team at Crossroads Hospice for their compassionate care and support during Wes’s final days.
Wes will be remembered for his loyalty, helping hands, generous heart, and the love he poured into his family, friends, and the home he built.
A memorial service celebrating Wes’s life will be held at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, October 15, at Sunset Hills Memory Gardens Chapel located at 7920 Frank Ave NW, North Canton, Ohio, followed by lunch served at Orchard Hill Church, 2545 W. Comet Rd, Clinton, Ohio.
