Iona Alda Allen

Iona (Myers) Allen, age 96, of North Canton, died Monday, November 18, 2013, surrounded by her family.

She was born in October 1, 1917 on Pittsburg Road and lived in the same house for 80 years. She lived at the Danbury for 9 years and was living with her daughter and son-in-law at the time of her death.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George in 1992; parents, Theodore and Cevilla Myers; brother, Paul; and sister, Mildred Kreiner.

She drove school bus for North Canton for 21 years, retiring in 1978. She attended Mt. Pleasant Church of the Brethren when she was able.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and David Dretke; son, J.P. Allen of Wooster, OH; four grandchildren, Ron (Nikki) Allen, Chad (Nicolina) Dretke, Jason Dretke, Christine Allen; five great grandchildren, Heather Schonaur, Alexis and Emma Dretke, Morgan and Brodie Allen.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Thursday in the Karlo-Libby Funeral Home with Rev. Terry Gunderman of Elkhart, IN and Rev. Harley Flory of Defiance officiating. Interment will be in North Canton Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-7pm on Wednesday and one hour before services (10-11am) on Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions are suggested to Mt. Pleasant Church of the Brethren, 4152 Mt. Pleasant St. NW, North Canton, OH 44720, or Hospice of Tuscarawas County, 201 W. 3rd St., Dover, OH 44622.

Mrs. Allen was my school bus driver. I've never forgotten her. Thank you for sharing the photographs with all of us. Even us kids on the bus were blessed with having her take care of us.

Heaven has another angel. I was so fortunate to have Iona as a second mom, and so happy that I was able to visit with her and share many fond and happy memories. God bless JP and Shirley and the extended family. She was a treasure!
