He received a bachelor’s degree in sociology (1969) and a master’s degree in education (1971) from Kent State University. He held positions at Kent State, Equitable Insurance Company, and Professional Risk Management before founding and becoming an award-winning CEO of Professional Claims Management in 1983. He was an avid golfer who loved all Cleveland sports teams, especially the Browns. Dave was a member of Glenmoor Country Club where he played in many leagues and tournaments. In 2023, he was inducted into the Glenmoor Golf Hall of Fame.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his birth father, Thomas Bratton.
Dave is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Sue (McMillan); daughters, Christine and Jenn Brandel; grandchild, Antigone; sister, Tina Olmstead (Eric); brother, Mike Novelli (Anne); many nieces and nephews; and his dedicated maltipoo, Toby. Dave will be missed by all his family and friends, including “The Geezers.”
His family would like to thank the Jackson Twp. EMS and the staff of Mercy Hospital’s emergency, ICU, and hospice. They would also like to thank Dr. John Westerbeck as well as Dave’s oncology doctors.
Friends may call between 5:00-8:00 PM on Sunday, January 14th at Karlo-Libby Funeral Home. Services will be held at the funeral home on Monday, January 15th, at 11:00 AM, followed by burial at North Lawn Cemetery on Cleveland Avenue in Canton.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made in David’s name to the American Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.
