Jan Eric Carlberg, 94, of Canton, passed away on Monday, March 9th, 2026.

Jan was born on December 5th, 1931 in Stockholm, Sweden to the late Thure and Ingegӓrd Carlberg. He grew up in Stockholm, Gothenburg, and the family summer home in Kungsbacka. After he graduated from upper secondary school, he attended Handelsinstitut in1950 and earned an associate degree in Business Administration. Following, he served in the Swedish military from 1953 to 1954 where he attained second lieutenant and was honored with medals for exceptional marksmanship. He also served in the Merchant Marine. When not attending university or supporting the military, he worked as a farm hand and automotive tire service technician.

In 1955, he boarded the ship MS Stockholm to come to the United States and moved to Akron, Ohio, as his father had secured him a position at Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company headquarters in Akron. There he worked in several positions, culminating as Senior Export Coordinator for international tire sales, concentrating on Latin America and the Middle East. He worked at Goodyear for 36 years until he retired in 1991. Jan met the late Irma Rosa Rauch at a dance hall in Akron in 1956 and in the spring of 1957, they got married. They enjoyed 55 years of marriage together before she passed in 2012. Jan spent most of his working career in Akron working for Goodyear and resided on Ralston Avenue in the Firestone Park area of south Akron. After retiring, he moved to The Nobles Pond community of North Canton in 1995, where he spent the rest of his life.

Jan enjoyed spending his free time working around the house and working in his yard. He took a lot of pride in the upkeep of his home. He also enjoyed traveling to national and state parks, Europe, and working on his model train set. Jan was a gentleman of the old school, and his motto in life was to live with honesty, integrity, and responsibility.

Jan is survived by his daughter, Ingrid Carlberg and fiancé Gregory Alan Hajos; his son, Eric Richard Carlberg and wife Narrin Noud-Carlberg; his three grandchildren: Elizabeth Erin Schooley, Erica Catherine Carlberg, and Eva Rosalie Carlberg; his cousin Gunvor Olofsdotter Ӧstlund in Sweden; his niece, Reidun Sofia Strӧmberg and daughter Julia Strӧmberg in Sweden; his niece Inger Carlberg in Sweden, and many other extended family members.
