Jean Allen Owens

Jean was born on November 14, 1929, to Paul and Hazel (Garmen) Allen. She graduated from NoCaHi in 1947 and was Homecoming Queen in 1946. Jean married William Owens in 1952 and after Bill completed his service in the Marine Corp, they moved to Lakewood, Ohio, eventually returning to their hometown of North Canton. Jean was a lifelong member of Zion United Church of Christ. She was an outstanding mother and homemaker. Her home was warm and full of laughter. Her love language was cooking, and her meals were beyond delicious. Jean had many friends, loved to knit, cross stitch, play bridge, sit in the sun, and a Swenson’s cheeseburger with grilled onions was her favorite. She was an avid fan of the Cleveland Indians, the Cavaliers, and The Ohio State Buckeyes.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Bill in 2021, parents, Paul and Hazel Allen, brother Robert “Bud” Allen, and sister Mary Kay Allen.

Jean is survived by her children Paula (Larry) Merten, David (Jeanne) Owens, Scott (Marisa) Owens and Mark (Kelly) Owens. Nine grandchildren, Evan (Gina Merten), Chase (Taylor) Merten, Ally (Mike Ferguson), Jennifer (Rob Lorentz) Wilhelm, Matt Owens, Clair Owens, Sydney Owens, Jake Owens and Lily Owens and seven great grandchildren.

Jean loved her family with all her heart! Her laughter, sense of humor, silly jokes, birthday poems, and delicious meals will be cherished memories for years to come. Jean was lovingly cared for by the wonderful staff at Windsor Medical Center and Advantage Hospice. Thank you to Dr. Steven Weaver, Dr. Susan Coss and Dr. James Franz, who cared for her at Windsor, and to her family doctor Joanna Bruno at North Canton Medical Center.

Calling hours for Jean will be held at Karlo-Libby Funeral Home on Saturday, September 20, 2025, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm. Her memorial service will begin at the funeral home on Saturday at 12:00 pm with Reverend Gary Smith officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Zion United Church of Christ in North Canton, Ohio.
