Many fine memories of Mr Dodge from Scouts. He will be sorely missed

I had the privilege to work with John during the early years of my tenure as Scout Executive of the Buckeye Council.  His quiet demeanor and dry wit was an asset to Scouting.
The ultimate honor I can pay to John is to simply say he was a Scouter.  Happy trails John.

My first met John when I was a District Scout Executive at the Buckeye Council, 1971. I admired John for his dedication to the Scouting program. John will be missed by many, but never forgotten. My sincere sympathy to his family. God Bless you all.

 I've been involved in Scouting for over 40 years, I met John, by way of my father,Dick Matheny. I loved the stories,the Tales, yes they were Legendary as well as John was. Later as I became a Scoutmaster, John was still involved in the Program, as well as 7 Ranges. The Scouts loved his singing abilities and loved when he would lead the Dining Hall in Song after Dinner. I thank God for the many Men of Scouting that have shaped me and the future of many young Scouts.John is one of the  Great Examples of what God asks, each and everyone to do in this world. Influence those around us to show Gods Love. Thank You John Dodge for doing just that.

John is remembered fondly and is still an inspiration to me on my Scouting trail.

John was a great friend and teacher,I got to spent alot of time with him and Joanne when mowing the campsites in the early years of Seven Ranges

John was a great man and we sure will miss him.  His love of Scouting and nature will never be forgotten.  May John rest in peace.

Thoughts and prayers are with you Suzie and your family.  I never met your dad but after hearing stories of him since we've met, it seems obvious his personality will continue to live on through you.

I always find it difficult to wrap my head around losing a friend.

I first became aware of John as a youth in the Scouting program.  I knew he was someone important as he was always at the big events I attended including Camp Tuscazoar.  After graduating from college and joining Buckeye Council as a District Executive, John and I shared an office.

It seemed an odd pairing with the rookie and the senior statesman sharing the same space, but I relished the opportunity.  He provided a balance to my youthful naivety and unbridled energy.  His West Virginia sensibility helped to give me perspective and encouraged me to step back and consider all options.

Perhaps the greatest gift I received from John was his compassion, commitment and caring he lived each day.  In his unique way he demonstrated by example what it means to live a life of service.  Perhaps more in our country would have benefited sharing an office with John.  I know I did.

May he rest in peace and I hope to see him down the trail.

I remember the stories John and my dad (Bob Sick) would tell and both having a sparkle in their eyes and joy in their voices.  Both are now together again.  Rest in peace Mr Dodge.  My condolences to the family he was a great person.
