Lila Jean Gunn

Lila Jean Gunn, 86 of Jackson Township, passed away May 5, 2021.

Jean was born on February 19th, 1935, in Bridgeport, West Virginia. She graduated from Bridgeport High School, Class of 1953. In 1955, she married the love of her life, Robert Dean Gunn. Jean work for 26 years and was a loving mother of three. She retired to pursue her true passion, serving God. A member of the Church of the Lakes United Methodist Church since 1964, Jean served in a variety of roles including: Choir Director, Lay Leader, and Prayer Chain Coordinator.

Jean was proceeded in death by Robert D. Gunn, her husband of 43 years. She is survived by sons, Robert Eric Gunn and wife Johnna, Brian Gunn and wife Lori; daughter, Beth Washburn and husband Todd; grandchildren, Meghann (Stephen) Wineka, Kaitlynn Gunn, Josh Gunn, Laurynn (Alanson) Stewart, T.J. Washburn, and Zac Washburn.

Calling hours will take place on Friday May 7th at the Church of the Lakes (UMC) at 9:00 a.m. -11:00 a.m. followed by a service in the sanctuary at 11:00 a.m. There will be a reception following the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations to be made to the Church of the Lakes (UMC) Memorial Fund.

Jean was a wonderful wife and friend, Bob was truly the love of her life ! We became pen pals after Bob’s death and always exchanged cards and notes with her ! The Lord brought a good LADY to his house, AMEN

Jean was always so positive and kind.

I remember... magical back tickles, helping me to not feel bad at all when I broke a beautiful bowl I know she really cared about, her firm but gentle way of encouraging Beth to let me finish my spaghetti, and countless images of how clear it was to me that she utterly adored her husband.

I will always have fond memories of Lila Jean’s visits to Texas! Beth and I started an annual Mom & Daughter night with our moms during the Christmas holidays when she was in town. We’ve enjoyed many dinners, shows, coffees, & desserts. Those memories will always be special to me, and I will certainly miss Lila Jean Gunn.
