

Marilyn L. McElfresh Hurst, age 90, of Canton passed away on October 3, 2025. Marilyn was born on February 15, 1935 in Canton, Ohio, the daughter of the late Floyd and Lillian (Geiger) McElfresh. She was a life resident of Canton and a 1953 graduate of Timken Vocational High School. During her career, she was employed as a bookkeeper for Capper and Son Garage, Pace Mold and Machine, Stebbins Office Equipment, The Canton Repository, and Jeffry’s Marine.
Marilyn was a faithful member of the Eleventh Street Church of God where she served as organist for 60 years, was active in the music programs as well as Christian Women Connection, and served as Chairperson of the Worship and Events committee. She was a past member of the American Guild of Organists. She loved Heggy’s candy, Johnnie’s crullers and Chick-fil-A. She truly lived up to the meaning of her name: Marilyn, a peaceful soul flowing with compassion.
Marilyn is survived by three children and their spouses, Tamra Hurst (Daryl Eshelman), Mark (Georgia) Hurst, all of Canton, and Brent (Valeri) Hurst of Fort Wayne, IN. Grandchildren, Lloyd (Maiya) Eshelman, Laura (Sean) Adkins, William, Julia, Averi and Elaina Hurst. Brother-in-law, Richard Kramer; niece, Shelly Kramer (Robert) Sherako; nephew, Steve (Shay) Hurst as well as several other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles to whom she was married 69 years at the time of his death in 2022; sister, Ruth Ann Kramer; niece, Cheryl Kramer Cureton; and niece, Shari Hurst Vessels.

Memorial service will be conducted at the Karlo-Libby Funeral Home at 3:00pm Saturday, October 11, 2025. Visitation will be from 1:00pm-3:00pm on Saturday, two hours before services at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Faircrest Church of God building fund, 3151 Faircrest St. SW, Canton, OH 44706.
