

Mary Patricia Barbacci, nee Hudanick, 87, died on April 22, 2017, surrounded by her daughters at the Windsor Colonies Assisted Living Center. She was born on October 16, 1929 in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania to the late Margaret Mulligan Hudanick and John Hudanick, Sr. On June 28, 1952, she married Orlando Barbacci, to whom she was married almost 61 years. She was a top graduate of the first Licensed Practical Nurse class of the Canton City Schools program.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a brother John Hudanick, Jr., an infant sister, adopted mother Marie Galloway and nephew Joseph Hudanick. She is survived by daughters Marguerite Barbacci (Ted Rogers) of Manns Choice, Pennsylvania, JoAnne Barbacci and Lisa Barbacci. She was a beloved aunt to her goddaughter Patricia Hudanick Proffitt (Jeff Proffitt) and children, niece, Johnna Sumser (Michael Sumser) and children, and nephew John Hudanick III. She also is survived by her cousins, and many nieces and nephews through marriage. She was honored to be called grandmother by Ayat, Hassanayn, Zaynab, Fatymah and Aly Joseph of Toledo, Ohio and Claire Corder and Kellan Adam Wade of Stark County, Ohio.
She was a longtime resident of North Canton, Ohio and parishioner of St. Paul Catholic Church. She was a long standing member of the Altar & Rosary Society. She was a coronary care nurse for over 20 years at Timken Mercy Hospital. Mary Patricia also worked as a school nurse for Canton Central Catholic High School. She was an election poll worker for over 20 years.
She was the daughter of a coal miner and grew up during the Depression. She had a great empathy and compassion for those less fortunate and she knew the power of an education. She was a proud Democrat. She loved to read and garden and spend time with family. She had a special love for animals. She especially loved to share her joy of reading and many books with children.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the nursing staff at Windsor Medical Center and Crossroads Hospice for the care and support provided to Mary Patricia and her family. The family would also like to extend their thanks and gratitude to the many physicians, nurse practitioners and nurses at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation for the outstanding care they provided.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests that donations be made to the North Canton Public Library.
