Phyllis Joann Stickle, age 81, of North Canton, Ohio, passed away peacefully on July 16th, 2025.
Joann was born December 4, 1943, in Alamogordo, New Mexico to loving parents Jeff and Fannie Campbell (Batte). She was the youngest of four children but grew up around many nieces and nephews. They lived on a farm in Bell Canyon, New Mexico. Joann always loved telling the story about riding a horse 30 minutes down the hill and then catching a school bus to Alamogordo, another hour away. The horse had to be sent back to work on the farm during the day but always returned so she could ride back up the hill after returning from school.
At the age of 18 Joann met Duane L. Stickle at the local army base. They got married and set out to see the world. Military life was always an adventure with tours of Germany (twice), Ethiopia Africa, and many states including Texas, Arizona, Massachusetts, and Colorado. Each time Duane received a hardship order, Joann packed up the children and drove across the country to be close to family in New Mexico. Together they raised three beautiful children. Upon retiring from the military the family relocated to Canton, Ohio where Joann worked in various jobs including an auto parts manager, an insurance agency, and Dollar Bank Mortgage Service Center.
Joann is preceded in death by her husband, Duane; her son, Ronald; and all her siblings. She is survived by her daughters, Mary (Jim) Amos, and Rebecca (Doug) Lemin. She always enjoyed the company of her 4 grandchildren, Kali, Nathan, Lance, and Annie; and 2 great-grandchildren. She will be missed but her legacy as an incredibly strong woman will always live on.
A private family memorial is planned at Forest Hill Cemetery.
