Dick was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on July 2, 1944, to the late Samuel L. and Elizabeth A. (Porter) Macioce, and raised in Massillon after he and his family moved to Ohio. He was a graduate of the 1962 class of Perry High School. He married Susan “Sue” Scheetz on June 6, 1982, and they celebrated 35 years of marriage together before she passed in 2017. Caring for Sue was one of Dick’s greatest priorities. Throughout her journey with Alzheimer’s disease, he devoted himself to being her loving and dedicated caregiver. Dick spent most of his life in the restaurant industry, including Kim Inn and Ruslee’s… both restaurants of North Canton, and more than 30 years as the proud owner of Dick’s Restaurant & Lounge… multiple local establishments located between North Canton and Massillon that all became very familiar with the community. He was especially known for his signature pork chop, the Suzie burger named after his wife, and the generously topped salads loaded with cheese. After retirement, Dick faithfully volunteered for over a decade with the Community Harvest food rescue program of the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank contributing an estimated 3,200 volunteer hours across more than 500 visits generously giving his time to help feed neighbors in need and forming lasting relationships along the way. He also volunteered his time at the annual Pro Football Hall of Fame events in Canton and the Bridgestone Invitational at Firestone Country Club in Akron. He and Sue were long-time members of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and St. Michael’s the Archangel. He enjoyed many interests throughout his life, including cars, golf, and dining at other local restaurants with his buddies in his later years. In addition, he was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles of North Canton, and he was a very devoted Massillon Tigers football and Pittsburgh Steelers football fan throughout his life.
Dick is survived by his children: Rick (Terri) Macioce, Sherri Evans, and Michael Macioce; Sue’s children: Tom Phillabaum, Brett (Deborah) Phillabaum, Brian Phillabaum, Ron (Jenny) Scheetz, and Faith (Michael) Barbato; a sister, Susan Peters; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and first wife, Sandra (John) Caffaratti. Along with his parents and wife, Dick is preceded in death by his wife’s grandson, Shane Phillabaum, and his dear friend and fellow restaurant entrepreneur, Richard Charles Beiter.
