Rich was born in Canton on May 4, 1937 to the late Joseph and Julia (Kuba) Oberster. Rich was a graduate of the 1956 class of East Canton High School. He joined the U.S Army and served from 1960 to 1962 and then transferred to the US Army Reserves, serving until he was honorably discharged in 1966. Rich worked for Sugardale for many years and then worked for Kauffman Plumbing & Heating until he retired in 2011. He was a member of the American Legion, Post #44, Louisville Fraternal Order of Eagles #2374, and the VFW. He was an avid card player and loved euchre, poker, and 31. When he was younger, he loved to bowl. He once bowled a score of 299. Rich was also a lover of the Cleveland Indians and the Cleveland Browns.
Rich is survived by three children: Vikki (David) Minner, Lance Oberster, and Tyra (Zac) Hanle; six grandchildren: Allyson Weiner, Curtis (Beth) Weiner, Adrienne Weiner, McKenna Oberster, Curtis Hanle, and Brooklyn Hanle; two great-grandchildren, Zaine and Brayden Roberts, and one sister, Donna Dale.
Along with his parents, Rich is preceded in death by six brothers: Louis, Joseph, John, Robert, August, and Arthur Oberster; and four sisters: Mary Oberster, Julia Andrews, Margaret Tournoux, and Betty Frentzel.
Calling hours will be held at Karlo-Libby Funeral Home on Sunday, January 16, 2022 from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm. Funeral services will be held at St. Benedict Catholic Church on Monday, January 17, 2022 at 10:00 am with Deacon Randy Smith officiating. A private burial will take place at a later date.
