Richard VonGunten, 76, passed away Saturday, October 3, 2026. A lifelong resident of Canton Ohio, Richard enjoyed being with his family. He was a diligent follower of Jesus, setting a strong example for his sons. He was also a proud veteran of the U.S. Air Force, where he served in Vietnam. Upon his return and discharge from the Air Force, he worked for and retired from ODOT.
Richard is preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Roberta VonGunten; brother, John VonGunten; and parents, Lee and Irene (Pyle) VonGunten. He is survived by his sons, Eric (Jessica) VonGunten, and Kirk VonGunten; sister, Debra (Daniel) Craig; one beautiful granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.
He was loved by his family and his laugh and playful spirit will be missed.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, October 9th, from 4-7pm in the Karlo-Libby Funeral Home, 5000 Everhard Road NW, Canton. The funeral service will be Saturday, October 10th at 10am at the funeral home, followed by burial and a small reception.
