
Robert M. Groshan, age 63, passed away unexpectedly on April 6, 2013 in Washington, DC, where he resided since 1975. Born April 16, 1949 in Canton, Ohio, and a graduate of Hoover High School in North Canton. Robert received his B.A. in Political Science from The College of Wooster in 1971, his M.A. from the School of International Service at the American University in 1982, and his J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center in 1986. He spent many years engaged in international affairs, including writing and researching a wide range of political, regulatory and economic issues. During his career, Robert held internships at the Washington Peace Center, the Center for Law and Social Policy, The Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars, area congressmen and judges. He also worked as a Law Clerk in Alexandria, VA and at the national office of The American Red Cross. From 1971-74 he served as a teacher of English and assistant to the Director at the Urban Industrial Mission of the Church of Christ in Thailand, sponsored through Christ Presbyterian Church in Canton. Throughout his life, Robert spent his time volunteering in a variety of non profits in the Washington, DC area including local community associations and the national office of PFLAG. He is survived by his sister, Laura Mathews (Groshan) and brother- in- law, Robert of Massillon, OH; two nieces, Leanne and Amy Recchio, of North Canton, OH; aunts, Eva and Barbara Miller of Mesa, AZ and numerous cousins in OH, AZ, TN and TX. Preceded in death by his grandparents, and parents, father, George M. and mother, Dorothy C. Groshan. Arrangements are in the care of Karlo-Libby Funeral Home, 5000 Everhard Rd NW in Canton, OH with internment at Forest Hill Cemetery. Graveside memorial services will be held Friday, April 19, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at the cemetery. A memorial service is also being planned in the DC area at a later date.
