Rommel Douglas Whitfield, age 65, of Massillon, Ohio, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones. Born on May 10, 1960, in Canton, Ohio, Rommel was a proud graduate of Canton South High School, Class of 1978. He married Kathryn on June 3, 1983, and was a devoted father to his children Alicia and Rommel (Alex) and loved spending time with his grandchildren Ceanna, Ramier, Amyah and Oakley.
Rommel dedicated 33 years of honorable service to the Canton City Fire Department, where he was known as a courageous and compassionate firefighter/EMT. His commitment to protecting others and his excellence in the field earned him the admiration of colleagues and the community alike. He was a proud member of the AFL-CIO and will be remembered not only for his professional achievements but also for his unwavering loyalty, humor, and love for his family.
During his leisure time, Rommel engaged in collectible trading and sales reflecting his interests in Star Trek, Star Wars, automobiles, and comic books. He was highly proficient with computers and was frequently found assisting others with their computer needs.
Rommel was preceded in death by his father, Leroy Whitfield; paternal grandparents, Richard and Viola Whitfield; paternal grandmother, Martha Pressley; and maternal grandparents, Solomon and Maggie (Emerson) Davis.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Kathryn Whitfield, and his children, Alicia Whitfield and Rommel A. (Sarah) Whitfield; grandchildren, Ceanna Cantrell, Ramier Whitfield, and Amyah Whitfield; and great-grandchild, Oakley Mae Cantrell. He also leaves behind his beloved mother, Margaret Whitfield; his dear sister, Therlanda (Daryl) Singleton; close nieces and nephews Marleah, Philip and Maggie Singleton and many extended family members and friends who will cherish his memory.

Services will be held at Karlo-Libby Funeral Home and interment will be held at Sunset Hills Memory Gardens in Canton on Saturday, November 8th, 2025. The Family Hour and viewing from 10:00 to 10:45 AM. Funeral services will start with the Firefighters’ Last Call at 10:45 AM. Funeral Services will be followed by internment and repast from 1:00 to 2:00 PM.
Rommel’s legacy of bravery, kindness, and dedication lives on in the hearts of all who knew him.
