Our Mom, Shirley Mae McCoul, is in the loving arms of Jesus. Surrounded by her family, she passed away peacefully on August 16, 2025 at 3pm. Mom was born January 21, 1934 to Myrtle and Charles Henninger in Canton, Ohio. She loved being with her family and friends and was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend who never met a stranger. She was not only our Mom, but our friend.
Mom loved deeply. She had a giving heart and loved people. She could talk to anyone for hours and was always helping those in need. Mom was passionate about so many things. She loved music and had such joy going to a symphony concert or watching an opera. She had a beautiful voice and loved singing and playing piano with her family. Mom loved gardening and crafting and was very involved in garden clubs. She enjoyed swimming (playing with her kids and grandkids in the pool), running, hiking, walking in the rain, and was willing to take on any adventure that we sent her way, including climbing mountains when she was afraid of heights and running races at 80 years old. She loved to travel and explore new places.
Mom worked with children in North Canton Schools for many years. She loved history and was a docent at the First Ladies Library also for many years. She enjoyed reading and was involved in book clubs. She also enjoyed playing cards with her friends, many of whom she had known since kindergarten.
Mom is rejoicing in Heaven with her husband, (James), Mom (Myrtle), sister (Donna), and other loved ones. She is survived by her six children: Melanie Harsh (Jeff), James McCoul (Karen), Stephanie Perez (Manny), John McCoul, Tim McCoul, Kim Risinger (Ed); grandchildren, Veronica, Jessica (Brian), Katherine, Sarah, Michael (Emma), Annika, Annabelle; and great-grandchildren, Luke and Caden.
First and foremost, Mom loved her savior, Jesus Christ. We will see you again one day in Heaven. We love you Mom.
"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. From now on there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day..." 2Timothy 4:7-8
