Thomas E. Emmons, 75, of Delphos, passed away November 30 peacefully in his home.
Tom was born June 30, 1947 in North Canton, Ohio, to Richard and Phyllis (Good) Emmons, who preceded him in death. He graduated from Hoover High School class of 1965 and earned his Bachelor’s degree as well as his Master’s degree in Physics from the University of Akron.
In 1972, Tom married his high-school sweetheart, Sheryl Little, and raised two daughters. In addition to building two successful home security system businesses, he taught in the Physics Department at Kent State University for 35 years where he was honored with the Distinguished Teacher Award in 1992.
As an accomplished scientist, Tom began his career by installing the sound system for the planetarium at the McKinley Museum in Canton when he was 16 years old. He lovingly cared for this planetarium for 55 years, and was also the planetarium director at Kent State.
Another joy of his was taking his family on vacations. Tom loved their many trips together to Disney World. Later on, he and Sheryl enjoyed many cruises and travelling to Alaska, Hawaii, Mexico, and several European countries.
As a nearly life-long resident of North Canton, many locally knew Tom as the creator of the “dancing Christmas light display” on Lorena Street for 38 years.
Tom is survived by his wife of 50 years, Sheryl; daughters Kristen (Christopher) Mose of Countryside, Illinois and Heather (Cory) Boecker of Delphos; grandchildren Grant, Gavin, and Renae Boecker and Andy, Kevin, and Charles Mose; and sister Jeanne Bishop.
Visitation will be held at Karlo-Libby Funeral Home in Canton on Sunday, December 4, from 7 to 9 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held the following day, December 5 at 10 am at St. Paul Catholic Church in North Canton. Burial will take place at Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Ottoville.
