

Barbara Dawn Wharton Ramsey was born February 23, 1939 in Mesa Rica, New Mexico to John Franklin Wharton and Winnie Pearl Wharton. She died October 15, 2025 in a Lindale, Texas nursing home. After a short stint in New Mexico, her family moved to Waxahachie, Texas where she attended school through her sophomore year. After another move to Garland, Texas in 1955, she enrolled and later graduated from Garland High School in 1957.
Barbara received an Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education from Eastfield College in 1969, a Bachelor of Science from the University of North Texas in 1976 and her Masters in Education from Stephen F. Austin State University in 1977. She later also attended The University of Texas at Tyler where she received her principalship certification. Barbara taught school for 27 years with her time split between Garland ISD and Kemp ISD. She loved teaching and had a passion for the classroom. Nothing made her happier than helping a child learn!
Barbara accepted Christ when she was 13 during a church revival. She saw Jesus that very day as He reached out and touched her hand upon her accepting Him into her heart. Born the daughter of a Baptist preacher, her faith was always important to her. She was an active member at Lakeside Baptist Church in Canton, Texas where she was very involved in the STARS ministry program.
Barbara loved spending time with her family and loved attending family reunions, but most of all, she loved to laugh! She had a wide scope of hobbies which included raising mini horses and donkeys, making porcelain dolls, writing poetry and playing dominoes - especially 42!
Barbara was preceded in death by her loving husband of 66 years, Billy Cloyse Ramsey, parents John and Winnie Wharton, brothers Donald and Verlin Wharton, and grandson James Jason Ramsey.
She is survived by her sons James Franklin Ramsey and wife Lauri of Llano, Texas, John Stephen Ramsey and wife Lisa of Cedar Park, Texas, and David Cloyse Ramsey and wife Renee’ of Lindale, Texas. Four grandchildren, Dr. Gail Ramsey (and husband Tyler), Will Ramsey (and wife Lexi), Dr. Colton Ramsey and Claire Ramsey. One great-grandson, Wyatt J Ramsey. Two step grandchildren, Dustin Gray (and wife Ashley), Taylor Gray (and wife Jennifer). Three step great grandchildren Keegan Gray, Oliver Gray and Everett Gray. Two sisters, Comellia Joy Teague of Waxahachie, Texas and Elena Jane Taylor of Leander, Texas as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at Eubank Funeral Home in Canton, Texas on October 20, 2025 at 1:00 PM.
