On Monday, March 1, 2021, Barbra Patricia Gideon Humphrey, remarkably devoted wife and loving mother of three children, “Meme” to four grandchildren, and sister to six siblings found everlasting rest in God’s Kingdom at the age of 70.
Barbra brightened this world when she was born on May 31, 1950 in Athens, TX to Arley Alfred Gideon and Oleta Loy Black Gideon. On December 6, 1968 she married Hollan Ray Humphrey of Edom, TX. They fulfilled 52 years of marriage together and raised two daughters, Melani Humphrey of Chandler, TX, Felicia Green of Georgetown, TX, and one son, Adam Humphrey of Huntsville, TX. Barbra was a fellow classmate of the Brownsboro High School Class of 1967-1968, and a dedicated member of the West Lake Baptist Church in Chandler, TX for four years. She was an outstanding choir member of the West Lake Baptist “Singing Saints” where she found immeasurable joy singing praises for The Lord. Barbra made her profession of faith in Jesus Christ at the age of 12 at Leagueville Baptist Church in Murchison, TX. Her former church families included Faith Baptist Church in Brownsboro, TX and Lakeside Baptist Church in Canton, TX where she served God in many capacities. Barbra worked fastidiously as a caretaker for small children at First Baptist Church Parents Day Out and First Presbyterian Church Parents Day Out in Athens, TX, as well as Minnie Moms Daycare in Brownsboro, TX for over 30 years. She deeply valued every moment that she was able to be of service to others.
Barbra did countless things well, but she loved others best. She was treasured and respected by many. She showered her loved ones with immeasurable care, kindness, and joy. She had a passion for travel, always in search of new ways to explore her adventurous spirit. She loved to enjoy music, gardening, birdwatching, taking photos, and cooking for special occasions. She is remembered by her infectious smile and laughter, vivacious spirit, and compassion toward others. She encountered joy in the fleeting moments of each day and had unwavering trust and confidence in her Lord and Savior.
Barbra was preceded in death by her father, mother, and two brothers, Mark and Richard Gideon.
She is survived by her husband and children aforementioned, four grandchildren Madison Baker of Austin, TX, Macy Green of San Marcos ,TX, Colten and Caleb Humphrey of Huntsville, TX, four siblings, Arlene Flanagan Plott of Brownsboro, TX, Martha Brown of Fairport, NY, Millie Skinner of Tyler, TX, and Steve Gideon of Leander, TX, as well as numerous cousins, nephews and nieces whom she deeply cherished.
Pallbearers serving to honor Barbra’s radiant life are Mick Edwards of Georgetown, TX, Jesse Skinner of Tyler, TX, Larry Humphrey of Tyler, TX, Gary Lynn Humphrey of Chandler, TX, Kevin Skinner of Whitehouse, TX, Eldon Holman Kidd of Tyler, TX, as well as honorary pallbearers Paul Black of Dallas, TX and Blake Gideon of Austin, TX.
A Funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 6, 2021 at Eubank Funeral Home in Canton, Texas at 1:00pm, officiated by Bro. Steve Glosup.
Graveside service will be held on March 6, 2021 at 2:30pm at Jennings Mountain Cemetery.
Family and friends will hold a visitation to begin celebrating Barbra’s life on Friday, March 5, 2021 at Eubank Funeral Home in Canton, TX from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at the funeral home.
Barbra’s family kindly requests everyone who plans to attend her services to wear a mask, as a part of their efforts to keep one another as safe as possible. As badly as they want to hug and lean on each of you, they ask that guests practice social distancing to their best efforts, so that in the future, they still have the opportunity to do so. If these things are not possible, please send your condolences and love from the safety of your home.
