

Burl passed away Sunday, June 26, 2016 in Athens, TX.
He was born March 17, 1924 in Parthenon, AR to Obere and Pearl McArtor Martin.
Burl grew up in Maud, OK and joined the U.S. Army at the age of 19. He served in the 503rd Parachute Infantry during WWII. Burl took part in the liberation of New Guinea, Southern Philippines, and Fortress Corregidor in Manilla Bay. Among many other decorations, Burl was awarded The Bronze Star for his heroic service in combat. Burl served 22 years with the Dallas Fire Department and 10 years for the Van Zandt County Sherriff Department. He enjoyed horses, trail rides, and rodeos. Burl was a member of the Living For the Brand Cowboy Church in Athens and a lifetime member of the VFW.
He is survived by his Wife, Wilma Green Martin; Son, Michael & Sharon Martin; Grandchildren, Sean Patrick Martin and Collin Christian Martin; and several Nieces & Nephews. Step Sons, Bobby & Charlotte Green, Robby & Debrah Green. Host of Step Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren. Step Great Grand Daughter Kimberly Ann & Nathan Chaddick, Step Great Great Grandsons Jaden & Kyler Whitely
Burl is preceded in death by his Parents, Obere & Pearl Martin; Wife, Martha Frances Martin; Brother, Billy Joe Martin; and Sister, Fama Martin.
Interment will be at Haven of Memories in Canton, TX.
Family will receive friends Thursday, one hour prior to the funeral service.
