Clell Smalling

A celebration of the life of the family hero, Clell Smalling, 95, of Canton, Texas will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 10, 2024 with military honors, at Eubank Funeral Home, Pastor Ed Stovall officiating.

Clell Smalling passed away on Sunday, July 28, at 1:20 a.m. in Tyler, Texas at the age of 95. He was born in New Hope, Arkansas on November 4, 1928 to Otis Claud and Plena Elizabeth (Aylor) Smalling, and graduated from New Hope High School as Salutatorian of the Class of 1947.

He worked at several odd jobs for about three years. In 1951, he enlisted in the U. S. Air Force for four years. This was during the Korean War. In 1955, he was honorable discharged from the Air Force. Clell went to work for LTV Aircraft for about five years before going to work for Texas Instruments, where he retired after 27 years. In 1958, he met his wife to be, Mary Johnson and they were married soon after.

Clell was a man who enjoyed the simple things in life. He loved the Lord and attended Edgewood Church of Christ. Family was important to him; he was and is a hero to his children. He was proud of his service to the country and was very patriotic, flying the American flag in his yard. Clell was a wonderful example of a loving father, grandfather and devoted Christian man. His memory and his love will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Otis and Plena Smalling; beloved wife, Mary Smalling; grandchildren, Brandi Whitestone and Jeremy Poradek; sisters, Jessie Smalling, Lovena Smalling and Floyce Smalling; brothers, J. D. Smalling and Doyce Smalling.

Clell is survived by his children: Kimberly Smalling, Michelle Poradek, Deborah Smalling Whatley, Michael Smalling and wife, Donna, Lena Jones; grandchildren: Caleb Smalling and wife, Maria, Erin Smalling, Cameron Jones; eight great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

A visitation will be held one hour prior to service at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home.

Interment will be at Haven of Memories Cemetery in Canton, Texas.
