Clota met Cecil when he was 9 years old. His Pa Cherry lived right next door to their house and Cecil ask Mr. Alt for a few ears of corn. And he was Red head boy she walk up on in the garden she said. Over the years Cecil would come back to see his grandparents and when Clota was 16 he asked if he could see Clota as a friend. So Pa Cherry took Cecil next door to see if he could date her or see her as it was back in the day. Clota and Cecil date were every Sunday at Round Flat Pentecostal Church when Cecil could get to town. Because he work in Dallas. He was able to take her to get ice cream on Saturday if the family went to town but he could not take her to town or ride with her family. Then when they marry that night they moved to Dallas, TX. Clota said she could not believe they had a two room apartment house underground. The living room and kitchen had a very small window and the bath room had the same size small window but not one and the bedroom. She said you could not open them because people walk outside would try to look in them to see what was down there and when it rained water would come in. Then lived in Dallas and many other places where they would come to have 5 kids. As Clota was growing up she did not think she would ever see any places of the world or ever live out of Grand Saline. She said boy was she wrong! She said Cecil went to road work after they had been married after a few years to take care of their family and to help his mother and his 4 younger brothers. She said she lived in Arkansas when Celia was a little baby but did not live outside of Texas again till she had all 5 kids and got to see the ocean for the first time in her life when the family moved to Biloxi, Mississippi. She said Lubbock was so sandy it was hard to ever keep it out of the house or off of all you kids. Then her Daddy got sick your kids Popeye in 1977. So Cecil knew she had to be with her Daddy and Mommy before something happened to them and she said your Daddy said he need to get the kids in a place and quite moving us all around. She said we moved to Grand Saline in 1977. She said your Daddy moved us to 3 more houses till December of 1988 then we moved in to her house that would be her home. She said I knew when your Daddy said old lady would live here the rest of our lives she knew she could be happy with a permanent home for herself and us. She lived with Daddy there never having to worry about not having a house big for us. Then Daddy passed in 1999 and she said I never worked but one time when Clinton was 2 years old and again for 8 months at the Bread Factory when that car fell on your Daddy and broke his back and he could not work. So I was not sure what I was going to do it. So First Monday was it. She worked 4 years in the food court and cleaning bathrooms. When she quit it was time she said because she done got tired of the people and her job was not fun anymore. But sitting around got old did not happen anytime soon she said. She got to do stuff she said I never in my life I believe I would ever do. I got to see Graceland from by granddaughter Robin went on a boat which was a cruise ship from her with you Lisa. Then thanks to Cecil I got to ride an airplane for the first time I was scares to death but it got a little better the more I got on one to see him and family to one to Las Vegas was the easy one because it was not that long. Then with Clinton all over the world in a car or travel house boy I’ve been to Mississippi, Arkansas with your Daddy and all over Texas. Then after his passing Mexico, Washington, Tennessee, Nevada, Oklahoma, Missouri, Louisiana, Georgia, Florida, Alabama. She said boy the places I’ve been. Even got to see an airport in Oregon one time and shot a forest gun. She said I have I have loved seeing places and going to see grandkids and great grandkids. Jennifer’s twins and kid but I always like to get home to the house. She said I know it came a time I would not be able to go places but I did not think it would come so soon. She talked about moving in with Robin and Lisa and me and the kids. Well here I am she said but I’m not in a nursing home. You kids and Robin said I would not have to line in one. And I’m glad I get to live with you all and I’m glad I did not just sit and get old.
