He passed away peacefully on April 3, 2019 in McKinney.
Coker grew up in Van and graduated from Van High School. He served with honor as a member of the Army of the United States during the Korean conflict. He attended Baylor University; graduated from East Texas Baptist College and earned his masters' degree from Texas A&M University in Commerce. Coker taught in the Dallas Independent School District for over 30 years. He was a gifted pianist and vocalist performing over the years in churches and social events. Coker was a member of the old Gaston Avenue Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Joyce Stewart and brothers: Danny Gene Douglas and Jimmy Douglas.
Coker is survived by his sister, Susan Douglas Bivens and husband Fred of Lucas; niece, Vicki Savage of Mineola and nephew Tommy Stewart of Grand Saline along with numerous other relatives and friends.
We will celebrate his life with a private family gathering at his home in Lucas.
