Services for Donny J. Hardaway, 94, of Canton, will be held 2 pm Sunday, November 23, 2025, at Eubank Funeral Home in Canton with Pastor Mike Roberson officiating. Interment will be in Haven of Memories. Mr. Hardaway passed away on November 14, 2025 in Canton.
Donny J. Hardaway was born on October 15, 1931, in Weinert, Texas to Maymie Brittain and James Houston Hardaway. Donny shared a special bond with his twin sister, Donella, and his best friend and brother, Tommy—both of whom preceded him in death. He and Tommy were often seen dressed alike with boots, hats, and vests.
Donny grew up in Pecos on the family cotton and hay farm. His love of the cowboy way and farm life never left him. He enjoyed woodworking, collecting pocket knives, belt buckles and key chains. He loved old cars, Westerns, John Wayne, and pitching washers. His pride and joy was his vintage Mercedes Benz car, a gift from his sister Judy.
Donny was a machinist for General Dynamics for many years, but also worked as a lineman, oilfield worker, and had a roofing company with his brother-in-law Sterling Carmon. He was quite the innovator making practical inventions from common items. Until his illness, he was faithful at mailing out greeting cards which often held $2 bills.
Mr. Hardaway loved his family and is preceded in death by his wife, Wanda Faye Carmon Hardaway; parents, James and Maymie Hardaway; five brothers: Tommy, Bob, Bill, Jack and Leroy Hardaway; and two sisters: Donella Rodgers and Lois Sherman.
Donny is survived by his four children and their spouses: Ronny and Deborah Hardaway, Lynn and Maureen Hardaway, Kathy and Wayne Day, and Lois and Dwayne Bennett; seven grandchildren and their spouses: Josh and Jacqueline Petree, Adam Hardaway and Jen Ritsema, Janna and Sean Bolton, Emily and Shane Cox, Brian Hardaway, Katy and Christian Lewis, and Emma Hardaway; numerous great-grandchildren; and a sister, Judy and Charlie McCoy.
A special “thank you” to Canton Oaks for their care of Donny and for the love they exhibited to him.
