Born in Mer Rouge, Louisiana, and raised in Richland Parish, Louisiana, to Elbert Elza Trumbo and Ruth Malena Clayton Trumbo. Dorothy (Doodle) was the youngest of eleven siblings, nine of whom survived until adulthood.
Dorothy’s family were poor, but they were a loving and close family who attended church together and loved celebrating their Lord. From a young age she worked along side her family in the cotton fields, planting, chopping, and picking the cotton. She and her sister Ruth loved to “play hooky” from the fields whenever possible. Often left to do the dishes after lunch while the rest of the family returned to the fields, they would entertain themselves by hanging from the rafters of the barn and generally getting into mischief. The family attended church together and loved celebrating their Lord with friends and family.
She married Henry O. Jones (Jr) at the age of 16, and bravely traveled alone by bus to Alaska, where Henry was stationed in the United States Army. They transferred later to Wichita Falls, TX, which began their life of moving. Dorothy became a packing expert, and lived in various places in Texas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Alaska, Norway, and Scotland.
During her adult life she worked various jobs, including waiting tables, driving an 18-wheeler, being a “lunch room lady,” and after getting her Associates Degree at the age of 56, working in the accounting department of a hospital. Unlike many her age, she loved computers and cell phones well into her 80’s. Her favorite job, however, was being a loving stay-at-home mother and housewife. She loved nature and was an enthusiastic gardener. She loved birds and animals, and showed unparalleled kindness to both people and animals.
Her crowning achievement was living her life for Jesus Christ. She never swayed from her faith, and was a shining example of his kindness and love.
Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Malena Doty and beloved son-in-law David Doty, granddaughter Olivia Hoeppner and her husband Alex, grandson Army Sergeant Nicholas Doty, and great-grandchildren Evangeline and Samuel Hoeppner, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband, Henry Owen Jones, parents Elbert Elza Trumbo and Ruth Malena Clayton Trumbo, brothers L. C. (Clyde) Trumbo, L. O. (Shorty) Trumbo, and sisters Beatrice Ramsey, Pauline Hughes, Mary Hampton, Mabel Cockerham, Evelyn Smith, and Ruth Corbin.
A funeral service will be held 10 am Wednesday, July 17, 2024, at Eubank Funeral Home in Canton, TX. Interment will be 2:30 pm Wednesday at DFW National Cemetery in Dallas. A visitation will be held 6-8 pm Tuesday at the funeral home.
