Dorothy Marie Meyer, aged 84, reunited in Heaven with the love of her life Charles (Chuck) Harold Meyer ( April 13, 1932 – December 24, 2007) on May 8, 2022. Dorothy was born on October 2, 1937, in Fort Madison, IA to Fred and Victoria Curry Simpson and had three sisters. She married Chuck in June of 1955 and adopted three children Doreen, Beth and Dean. Dorothy and Chuck spent most of their lives in East Texas, where she worked in the office at Walmart for 25+ years, before retiring in 2006.
In her younger years, while Chuck was alive, they loved music, playing cards and fishing together. Later in life, they discovered “the boats” in Shreveport and would make monthly trips with friends to gamble. After Chuck passed, she found herself watching game shows, The Golden Girls and anything with John Wayne in it. Her love of “the boats” never died and she would take any opportunity for a trip where she always came out a big winner.
Although, Dorothy suffered from numerous health issues, she remained feisty and strong willed, forever proud that she was able to live independently, as she never wanted to be a burden on others.
She is survived by her daughters Doreen and Beth, son Dean, son-in-law Nick Garvey, daughter-in-law Regina Meyer, 6 grandchildren, her sister LaVonne Miller, as well as her beloved Pomeranian, "Stormy."
The family requests that in lieu of flowers and cards, donations can be made to the SPCA for her love of dogs, or to St Jude Hospital for her love of children.
At her request, there will be a private graveside service for immediate family only.
