Services for Eddie Wayne Rasmussen, 83, of Mesquite, formerly of Canton, are scheduled for 11 am Monday, July 16, 2018, at Eubank Funeral Home in Canton with Mike Hisaw officiating. Interment will be in Haven of Memories. The family will receive friends 3-5 pm Sunday, July 15th at the funeral home.
Eddie passed away July 10, 2018 in Mesquite, just five days before his 84th birthday. He was born July 15, 1934 in Dallas to Peter F. and Zelma F. Hooten Rasmussen.
Growing up on a farm, Eddie milked cows, picked cotton and worked vegetable crops. He graduated from Canton High School in 1952. Mr. Rasmussen retired from GE Company/Trane Air Conditioning in Tyler, Texas, where he was a lab technician. Eddie loved science, geology and especially astronomy. He even built his own telescopes from scratch. Mr. Rasmussen taught himself to play the piano and organ by ear. He often played for hours for the Heritage Manor Nursing Home residents.
Mr. Rasmussen is preceded in death by his father, Peter Frederick Rasmussen (1943); mother, Zelma Fay Hooten Rasmussen West (2007); and his stepfather, Chester R. West (1984).
Eddie is survived by his brother, Fred D. Rasmussen and wife, Frankie; nephew, Michael Wayne Rasmussen and wife, Carolyn; great nephews: Blake and Grant Rasmussen; sister-in-law, Linda L. Moore; nephew, Chuck E. Moore and wife, Sandy; great niece, Amy Renee Moore; great nephews, Jonathan Moore and Charles Moore and wife, Amy Lynn; great-great nephew, Ryan Moore; niece, Cheryl Ann Moore Salinas and husband, John; great nephew, Romello Salinas and great niece, Madalyn Salinas; and many special cousins and friends who loved Eddie and will miss him very much.
Honorary pallbearers will be Michael W. Rasmussen, Chuck E. Moore, Charles Moore, Jonathan Moore, John Salinas, Don Ware, Jerry Nix, James Nixon, Jay Mince and Roger Hooten.
