At a young age, while at church camp, she recognized her need for a relationship with Christ and asked Jesus to be the Lord of her life. At age 20 she had her first child Chelsey and for the next 9 yrs they were a family of 2. The bond that formed between this mother and daughter during this time period was one that held incredibly strong to the very end. It was a priceless treasure to both of them.
Joe Burleson came into their lives in 1997 and swept Felicia off her feet. He soon proposed to this family of 2 and vowed to fiercely love and protect them both.
Joe and Felicia were married on Sept. 12, 1998. Over the next 20 years, the family of 3 would grow into a family of 8 and relocate to East Texas. Felicia enjoyed being the matriarch of this family and prided herself on being very intimately connected with each of her children. She loved them passionately.
Felicia’s life was not filled with marks of high education or lofty job positions, but rather faithful service in her primary ministry as a Godly wife and stay at home mom. She home-educated her children and passed onto each of them a love for reading and learning. She dedicatedly taught them life skills as well as academics. Felicia championed her children having a strong music education and she went to great lengths to make sure they advanced in their music endeavors. Felicia also maintained a resale business whose profit was donated to Christian ministries such as Voice of the Martyrs in order to spread the Gospel.
Felicia is survived by her husband, Joe Burleson of Canton, children, Chelsey Hearn (Colby), Chloe, Cassidy, Caroline, Joe David, and Charley; grandchildren Felicity and Silas; parents Donnell and Donna Vaughn of Wills Point; siblings, Mitchell Vaughn (Elaine) of Easely, SC, and Susan Shelton (Robert) of The Woodlands, Alayna Abel (Paul) of Wills Point and many treasured aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her paternal and maternal grandparents and her nephew, Payton Abel.
A celebration of her life will be held on April 27th 2019, 4pm at Lakeside Baptist Church 1291 Old Kaufman Rd Canton, TX 75103. Family will receive friends in the Fellowship Hall following the ceremony.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Felicia’s name to a ministry that meant so much to her, Hope Pregnancy Center 885 E State Highway 243 Canton, TX 75103.
