Dr. Glenn Walter Anderson Sr.

Private services for Dr. Glenn Walter Anderson, Sr., 83, of Canton, will be held Monday, March 23, 2020 at Eubank Funeral Home in Canton with Dr. Mike Roberson officiating. Interment will be in Haven of Memories. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Dr. Anderson passed away in Tyler on March 19, 2020. He was born January 27, 1937 in Dallas to Walter Edwin and Anna T Murphy Anderson.

Glenn grew up in San Augustine, Texas and graduated from San Augustine High School in 1955. Glenn married the love of his life, Frances, on August 23, 1958, and cherished her for 57 years. While attaining his Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology and Chemistry from Stephen F. Austin University in 1959, he was also a lab instructor in the Biology Department. He then earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery from Baylor College of Dentistry in 1963. Glenn served as a Captain in the US Army in the Medical and Dental Corps from 1963 to 1965. He had a private practice in Commerce and Canton. He taught at Baylor College of Dentistry and was on staff at Terrell State Hospital for several years. After retiring, Glenn returned to school and taught in the Biology Department while earning a Master's Degree in Biology from Stephen F. Austin University in order to teach Anatomy and Physiology at Trinity Valley Community College in Athens and Palestine. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Canton where he taught Sunday School and served as a deacon for many years. Dr. Anderson enjoyed photography, golf, was an avid reader, loved history, the Texas Rangers, traveling and music. His true calling was teaching.

Dr. Anderson is preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Anna Anderson; wife, Frances Colwell Anderson; brother, Bobby E. Anderson; and brother-in-law, Walter Donald Smith.

Glenn is survived by his son and daughter-in-law: Glenn Walter Anderson, Jr. and Debbie of Frisco; daughter and son-in-law: Angie and David Barber of Canton; three grandchildren: Jillian Barber, Kate Anderson and Cole Anderson; sister, Marilyn Smith of Baytown; sister-in-law, Lou Young Anderson of Winnsboro; nephew, Don Anderson; and nieces: Shari Anderson Akin, Donna Smith O'Brien and Deanne Smith Moore.

His greatest joy was his wife, his children, and his grandchildren whom he adored. He endeavored to be a loving husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, and friend. He accomplished this through great wisdom, a tender heart, a wry sense of humor, a listening ear, and unconditional love.

He was our sweet Uncle Glenn. He was very protective of his daughter! I remember taking her to the lake by my house in high school and him charging down the hill to make sure she wasn’t drowning!
