A visitation for Hazel Jean Montgomery, 88, of Whitehouse, Texas will be held at 1:00 p.m. on November 2, 2021 followed by a funeral service at 2:00 p.m. at Eubank Funeral Home, Bro. Billy Gurley officiating.
Hazel passed away peacefully on October 22, 2021, in Bullard, Texas. She was born on February 24, 1933 in Phalba, Texas to Miles Lecil Corley and Rosa Leota Jackson Corley.
She grew up in the Phalba area and graduated from Athens High School in 1952. On June 21, 1952, she married her one true love, James Montgomery. The couple lived in Garland, Texas for 35 years, but the Phalba and China Grove areas in Van Zandt County were always home. Hazel was a member of the China Grove Baptist Church. Even though Hazel worked, taking care of her home and family was her first priority. Spending time with family was always the best day. She was fondly called “Mee Maw” by her grandchildren. She and James enjoyed traveling in their RV, having visited 48 states in their travels. Hazel’s favorite place to visit was the Oregon coast where she collected sea glass and walked for miles on the beach with her sister. Hazel enjoyed doing puzzles, bird watching, reading and buying jewelry. She loved her “bling”. She was a lover of nature including animals, rocks which she collected in her travels, lakes and beautiful sunsets. Hazel was quick to cry and quick to smile. Her smile lit up the room. She was a woman who loved her family and will be dearly missed by all that knew and loved her.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Miles and Leota Corley and her beloved husband, James Montgomery.
Hazel is survived by her children, Diana Montgomery, Madonna Delgado, Larry Montgomery and wife Carla, Shannon McGinnis and partner Tom; grandchildren, Rebecca Fleet, Sarah Fleet, Braulio Delgado III, Raymond Delgado, James Nathaniel Montgomery, Jennifer Rodgers, Thomas Connor McGinnis, and Matthew David McGinnis; great grandchildren, Kylie Delgado, Landon James Delgado, Sawyer Christopher Delgado, Johnny Rodgers, Joey Rodgers, Kennedy Jane McGinnis, and Haley Grace McGinnis.
