Joyce Wynelle Fugate

Joyce passed away peacefully on June 6, 2020 in Grand Saline, Texas. She was born on December 25, 1934 in Edgewood, Texas to Clarence Jackson and Shrena Haun Jackson.

Joyce grew up in Edgewood and graduated Salutatorian from Edgewood High School. On June 20, 1952 she married the love of her life, Horace Fugate. They were married 63 years at the time of his death. Joyce was a member of Tundra Baptist Church for 48 years. She worked in the tax office of Van Zandt County from 1971 to 1999 and was voted Tax Collector for 4 terms. She loved cooking, canning and gardening. Joyce was an avid book reader, even keeping a list of what she read. She enjoyed doing crossword puzzles. Joyce loved her family and taking care of them. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Joyce is survived by her son, John Fugate; daughter and son in-law, Kathy and Gary Riley; grandchildren, Adam and Courtney Smith, Josh and Jenn Fugate, Craig and Ashley Riley; great grandchildren, Landry Smith, Hadley Smith, Quinn Riley, Carter Riley, Nolan Fugate, Finley Fugate and Hudson Fugate.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Horace Fugate; sisters, Marie Pope and Wauthene Palmer.

Family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 10, 2020.

Interment will be at Haven of Memories in Canton, Texas.
