Kathleen Ann Rushing passed away on April 25, 2026, at the age of 69. Born September 12, 1956, in Dallas, Texas, to Alonzo Vance Rushing and Jo Ann Anderson Rushing, she spent her childhood years in Irving, Texas, where she began high school at Nimitz High School before moving to Buchanan Dam, Texas. There, she attended and graduated from Llano High School, proudly serving as the Drum Majorette in the band.
Kathleen was deeply cherished by those who knew and loved her. Family was the heart of her world, and she found her greatest joy in time spent together, especially around a home-cooked meal, where conversation and laughter came easily. She had a deep love for cooking, rooted in the time she deeply cherished as a little girl in the kitchen with her grandmother, Mia, where she watched and learned. Later in life, she thoughtfully wrote down treasured recipes and carried those traditions forward, lovingly teaching them to her daughters and grandchildren, creating memories that will live on for generations.
Affectionately known as “Kat” to most who knew her, she was the baby of the family and always her Daddy’s baby girl. She gave selflessly of herself, most notably in the loving care she provided to her brother during his battle with Alzheimer’s, walking beside him with patience, compassion, and unwavering devotion. Kathleen shared especially close bonds with her niece and nephews, whom she loved deeply and supported wholeheartedly, creating lasting connections that will be treasured always. She was truly a force to be reckoned with—fiercely protective of those she loved, always ready to stand up, defend, and help make things right when her family needed her.
Kathleen built a long and successful career in the medical billing field, holding several leadership roles where she was known for her expertise, strong work ethic, and dedication. Early in her career, she generously shared her knowledge, writing manuals and training others in the field, helping to guide and shape those entering the profession. Highly intelligent, she continued her education whenever possible. Most recently, she continued her career with Baylor Scott and White Health, where she earned the respect and admiration of her colleagues through her consistency, care, and commitment to her work. Her impact was felt not only through her contributions but through the many people she helped and mentored along the way.
She found comfort in life’s simple joys—reading, caring for her cats, and even talking to the baby goats. In her younger years, she embraced life with a gentle sense of adventure, enjoying dancing and scuba diving. Her quiet strength, warmth, and unwavering love left a lasting imprint on everyone fortunate enough to know her.
Kathleen was preceded in death by her parents, Vance Rushing and Jo Ann Rushing, and her brother, Jeffery Rushing.
She is survived by her daughters, Molly Honea (Laura Ford) and Melissa Leverett (Todd); grandchildren, Caleb Honea (Caity), Harley Daniels, and Tryston Leverett; great-grandchildren, Carmella Honea and Mackenzie Tahimic; sister, Cindy Clark (Tom); and many nieces, nephews, other family members, and dear friends.
