Born in Littlefield, TX to Alta Mabel Taylor Ivy and Charles Vanderford, she graduated from Dallas Crozier Tech High School in 1945. Lawanda and Rev. Deward Francis Lusk married in 1946 and celebrated 48 years together, raising a family, and sharing the word of God. She sang and played the piano at churches around the country.
Together they pastored and traveled as an Evangelistic Team for over four decades. Their unwavering faith in Christ has impacted numerous ministries. The mantle of their anointing has been passed down to their three children and the Lusk family has witnessed numerous miracles of God's power and healing. All of her children learned to play instruments, and joined them in ministering the good word. They delivered bibles and prayers during mission trips to Mexico while raising their children, encouraging others to live virtuously and love the Lord.
Lawanda was a prayer warrior and quick with intercessory prayer when someone was in need. She was proud to be the oldest member of Grace Family Church in Canton. As a young woman, she worked for A.A. Allen Ministries and later for Malouf's Sewing Factory as a seamstress.
Lawanda was survived by her three children: Ronald Wayne Lusk (and his wife Karen), Marie Sims, and Wanda Gail Applegate. She had 10 grandchildren: Amy Brumbalow, Kari Mapes, Suzanne Kanon, Jerry Skinner, Christopher Arthur Wayne Lusk, Monica Skinner, Sherri Bond, Michelle Sylvie, Maggie Sahimi, and Kevin Laredo. She had 17 great grandchildren: Blain Shipp, Austin Brumbalow, Brett Brumbalow, Anabeth Kanon, Jennifer Archie, Hannah Shouse, Karlee Thompson, Rheanna Skinner, Cameron Davis, Ashton Laredo, Daisy and Bella Mapes, Mia & Damian Sylvie, Mila & Madeline Turner, and Sapari Sahmi, plus 5 great great grandchildren: Gracie Archie, Kolbi Shipp, Canyon Shipp, Elaina Shipp, and Seth Brumbalow. She is also survived by her sibling Leroy Ivy (and his wife Jean), and was preceded to heaven by siblings Harvey Ivy, Darlene Ivy, Aubrey Vanderford, the twins Arleta Eschrich-Blevins, and Oneta Powell.
