Vernette was the oldest of four children and was named after her daddy. She grew up alongside her sisters, Linda and Sue, and her brother, Randy.
Vernette had a way of being the brightest light in the room. She knew an astonishing amount about all kinds of music. She was a foodie who loved seeking out new restaurants, trying new recipes, and recreating her old favorites. An amazing cook and baker, she made sure no party was complete without Vernette’s dips. She got a kick out of her husband Gerald’s sense of humor and loved hearing a good story from Britt.
Vernette and her husband, Gerald, were the loves of each other’s lives. This November would have marked 56 years of marriage. She also gave 40 years of dedicated work to the same law firm and was due to be recognized for her service this December.
She was preceded in death by her father, Vernon Phillips Setzer; her mother, Joyce Whitson Setzer; her father-in-law, Gerald Laroy Crow; her mother-in-law, Nettie Bessie Crow; and her brother-in-law, David Bracewell.
Vernette is survived by her husband, Gerald Crow; her daughters: Brittany Gutierrez and her husband, Eric, and Janet Ross; her son, Gerald Keith Crow, Jr.; her grandchildren: Preston Ross, Chloe Gutierrez Pruitt and her husband, Hunter, Jacob Gutierrez, Zachary Gutierrez, Olivia Gutierrez, and Emory Gutierrez; and her expected great-granddaughter, Goldie Jane Pruitt. She is also survived by her sister, Linda Parnell and her husband, Larry; her sister, Sue Bracewell; her brother, Randy Setzer and his wife, DeeDee; her brother-in-law, John Crow and his wife, Janet; and many nieces and nephews.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Ask anyone who knew Vernette about her, and you will hear how deeply she was loved. She will be forever missed.
Visitation will be held at Eubank Funeral Home in Canton on Thursday, October 8, 2026, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. A memorial service and graveside service will follow.
In honor of the light Vernette brought to so many lives, the family invites everyone to wear bright colors to her service.
Psalm 34:18 states, "The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit."
