Nancy was born May 17, 1949, to James Leon Butler and Edna Maxine Butler. The fifth of eight children, she grew up surrounded by family, and the bonds she shared with her siblings remained important throughout her life.
A dedicated and hardworking woman, Nancy began her career with the telephone company before her daughter was born. She devoted more than thirty years of service before retiring, reflecting the determination and independence that defined her.
Nancy loved fishing, the quiet beauty of the countryside, and the life she made in Elmo. Living just down the road from where her parents had made their home kept her close to her roots and to memories she treasured.
Nancy was truly one of a kind: funny, outspoken, generous, fiercely independent, and just the right amount of feisty. She had a stubborn streak and never left anyone guessing what she thought. She could make you laugh, occasionally test your patience, and love you with all her heart - sometimes in the very same conversation. Those who knew her will remember her exactly as she was.
Above all, Nancy loved her family. She was a treasured mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. Her presence, stories, strength, and love will live on through the generations she leaves behind.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, James Leon and Edna Maxine Butler; her son, Phillip Wade Butler; her sisters, Phylis Maxine Boyd and Sandra Kaye Butler; and her precious great-granddaughter, Ry'Lynn Grace Hatley.
She is survived by her daughter, Stephanie De'Lane Butler Hatley, and husband Jim Hatley; and by her grandchildren and their families: Cody Wayne Hatley and wife Jessie, and their children Elliana Marie Hatley and Jake Ryan Hatley; Cayci De'Layne Hatley and husband Jeff Sprague, and their children Waylon Layne Sprague, Cove Kinslea Sprague, and River James Sprague; Colt Westin Hatley; Seth Dalton Butler; and Hunter Mackenzie Butler and her children Riley Butler, Kamila Butler, and Wesley Butler.
Nancy is also survived by her siblings, James Butler, Sallie Harries, Diann Butler, Donald Butler and wife Sharon, and Tim Butler and wife Rhonda; along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
Although her passing leaves an emptiness that words cannot express, her family finds comfort in imagining her joyful reunion in Heaven with her parents, sisters, beloved son Philip, and sweet great-granddaughter Ry'Lynn Grace.
Nancy's life will be remembered not simply by the years she lived, but by the love she gave, the laughter she inspired, and the memories she left behind. Her love remains in every family gathering, every familiar country road, and every story told about her.
Rest peacefully, Nancy Fay. Forever loved, forever missed, and forever remembered. Until we meet again.
