Born on Sunday, October 28, 1923, she was the youngest of 5 children, born to Oziro and Carrie Gandy. Imogene grew up in east Texas in the communities around Sand Flat and Grand Saline. She graduated from Grand Saline High School in 1940 after skipping the 6th grade in the one room elementary school she attended.
She attended high school and fell in love with Delmer Edward Thompson and they married on January 3, 1943. Edward quickly shortened Imogene’s name to “Gene”, for which most of you probably recognize as her given name.
In 1947, Pamela Kay was born. In 1952, Stephanie Jane was born. Ed and Gene were married for 55 years before Ed’s passing in 1998.
Ed and Gene lived in Oak Cliff for many years before moving to Carrollton in 1977. They attended church at Trinity Heights, Trinity Oaks, and Webb Chapel in Dallas. Gene attended church with Stephanie at Richardson East, and Pam at High Point in McKinney and the church of christ on McDermott Rd. in Allen, before her health declined. Recently, a small group of Christians came together at the Belmont and worshipped each Sunday, where Miss Nedra attended.
In 2014, Gene had health issues, that required her to move to the Belmont at Twin Creeks in November at age 91. The computer age “changed” Gene’s identity to Nedra. Miss Nedra, as she has been affectionately called for the last 5 years, lived out her life being spoiled and well cared for by the staff @ the Belmont.
On, Sunday November 10, 2019 Miss Nedra won her victory. She is preceded in death by her parents, 2 sisters, 2 brothers, and her loving husband, Edward.
