Funeral services for Olen Ray "Buck" Odom, 89, of the Whitton Community, Canton, Texas, will be held at 2:00 PM on December 11, 2021 at Eubank Funeral Home in Canton Texas with David Fretwell officiating. There will be no graveside service. Internment will be at Tarver Cemetery in Whitton Community. Visitation will be Friday December 10, 2021 from 6:00-8:00 PM.
Buck was born on July 4, 1932 in Kemp, TX to parents William Hardy and Jessie Leona (Baker) Odom. He went to be with his Lord on Sunday, December 5, 2021, at his home with his family by his side. Buck attended Mabank and Scurry Rosser schools. Buck met Shirley June Whitton and a love story began. They were wed on May 26, 1956 in Kaufman, Texas. Buck worked for the Texas Department of Transportation for 30 years. Buck also worked in the hayfields every summer with his children and grandchildren as well as repaired lawnmowers in his front yard for many years. He helped his brother Joe with his farm and cows and also took care of his mother-in-law with her garden and cows after her husband passed away.
Buck and Shirley lived in Canton for most of their married life. They were members of Whitton Church of Christ for many years and raised their children in the church and the Canton Community. Buck was an outstanding husband father, father-in-law, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, brother, cousin, and friend to all of those around him. If you needed help, Buck wouldn't hesitate to give you the shirt off his back, lend you an ear to listen to or just drink a cup of coffee with you and visit. Buck's greatest joy was his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He instilled in all of them a work ethic and a personal relationship with The Lord that they will carry on as a legacy and memories that will last a lifetime. Poppi, as his grandchildren and great-grandchildren called him, was a hard headed, stubborn, determined man that would do everything in his power to show, tell, and give his love to all of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Buck was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley June (Whitton) Odom; daughter, Holly Janice Everitt; granddaughter, Arrenva Grace (Rennie) Holloway; unborn great-great-grandson, Karsen Lee Chandler; parents, William Hardy and Jessie Leona Odom; brother, Joe Odom; sister, Will Lois Pitts; brother, Robert; sister, Marie; and three infant siblings.
