Ronnie Lee Travis went to be with his Lord and reunite with many loved ones on Saturday, April 1, 2023, while surrounded by his loving family. Ronnie was born November 13, 1947, in Van Zandt County, Texas. He was the fourth of seven sons born to Raymond and Ozella Travis. Ronnie attended the Wills Point Public Schools all twelve years graduating from high school in 1966. He was a star basketball player on the varsity team and received a basketball scholarship to Jacksonville Baptist College in Jacksonville, Texas. He later attended Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, Texas, Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas, and later attended and graduated from Wayland Baptist University in Plainview, Texas.
After attending Jacksonville Baptist College one year, Ronnie felt led to enter the ministry and moved to Wichita Falls Texas to serve as Youth Minister at Western Hills Baptist Church. This was the beginning of forty years of ministry for Ronnie in serving churches as youth pastor in Snyder and Lubbock, Texas, then becoming full-time pastor of Hopewell Baptist Church in Olton, Texas. He later served as full-time pastor at churches in Dimmitt, Texas, Knox City, Texas, Petersburg, Texas, and Harwood Terrace Baptist Church in Bedford, Texas.
Ronnie was a dynamic preacher and could speak the gospel in a clear and understanding manner to his congregations. More so than known for being a dynamic preacher was his true spirit of servanthood and pastoral duties. He had a deep passion for those less fortunate and in need of assistance. This passion was reflected and manifested in his many years of mission trips and serving in Native American Reservations in New Mexico and Montana completing thirty-one total mission trips to the Navajo, Aztec, and Blackfoot Native American Reservations.
He also served in mission trips to Falfurrias and Reynosa, Texas, the Mississippi Delta low-income communities, and even in the countries of Brazil and Uzbekistan. Whether it was providing food and supplies to Native American Reservations, teaching bible school to small children in the Mississippi Delta, or providing school supplies to single mothers in his home community, if the need was there, Ronnie did what he could do to meet those needs.
Considering his passion and desire to serve others, it is no surprise that two of his favorite verses are Psalms 34:6 “This poor man called, and the Lord heard him; he saved him out of all his troubles.” And Ephesians 3:20 “Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us. “
After forty years of ministry and pastoral servanthood, Ronnie retired and worked as a financial advisor for Edward Jones, a teacher for the State of Texas Drug and Alcohol Educational Program, and as a school crossing guard.
Ronnie is preceded in death by his mother, Ozella Travis, father, Raymond Travis, brother, Kenneth Travis, brother, Don Travis, brother, Dale Travis and brother Lynn Travis.
