Rose Edith Scott
January 4, 1929 – August 29, 2019
Funeral Mass for Rose Edith Scott, 90 of CANTON, TX will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 2, 2019 at St. Therese Catholic Church in Canton, TX with Father Selvaraj Sinnappan officiating. Rose Scott was born in Vienna, Austria on January 4, 1929 to Ferdinand and Aurelia Brezina Zelinka. She was a survivor of World War II and the Holocaust. She often spoke at schools about her story of survival and the legacy she wanted to leave behind. Rose wrote a book about her survival though the Holocaust called "ROSE: A Young Girl's Grit and Grace During World War II". She married in 1947 and came to America in 1948 where she raised her three children: Freddy, Rocky, and Griselle. As Rose became a grandmother, and later a great-grandmother, she became affectionately known as "Gangay." Rose was a woman people loved to be around. Her sweet disposition and knack for conversation put people instantly at ease. She managed nursery schools in Chicago and Spangdalem, Germany. She owned her own restaurant in El Paso and in Las Vegas she worked as the head hostess at restaurants in major hotels. She eventually retired in Dallas and later moved to Canton where she continued to be an active member of the community she loved so much. Rose was a spirited member of St. Therese Catholic Church and the members of the church loved her as much as she loved them. She was always on hand doing volunteer work, singing in the church choir, and working in the main office with her beautiful smile and her infectious laugh.
Rose is survived by her son, Freddy Gonzalez; daughter, Griselle King; seven grandchildren: Lisa, Michelle, Olivia, Malia, Joseph, Zachary, and Ginger; and eight great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, Ferdinand and Aurelia Zelinka; and son, Rocky Gonzalez. Visitation will be 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. Sunday, September 1, 2019 at Eubank Funeral Home. A Rosary will began at 6:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers please make a donation at the food pantry at St. Therese Catholic Church at 885 1st Monday Lane, Canton, Texas 75103

My family and I are so grateful to have known such an awesome woman.
Ms. Rose was very special to us, she wasn’t just our neighbor she was like a grandmother, mother and dear friend to all of us. I appreciate all of her love and care. She would spend hours every day spending time with our 15 year old daughter, Pinky. They would cook and watch TV together. Our 11 year old son, Jamie would also frequently go over and help her get into her house and carry her groceries and sit and tell stories for hours. All of our children loved to see her and made her laugh. We loved to see who could run over the quickest when we saw her car pull up! Even in our slippers and pajamas.
Her unconditional love was amazing.
She always let us know we were in her prayers forever.
It was during our road trip to Colorado a couple years ago, we read her book out loud. We learned so much more about her and her life. That blessed us even more!
We will miss her very much, it is so difficult to look out our window and know that she isn’t there. We know she is at peace though and dancing with the angels in Heaven.
We love you so much, Ms. Rose.
Love, Jimi, Jennifer, Pinky, Jamie and Libby 🤗💞🌹🙏

Ms Rose was a very special lady in my life, she was like a grandma to me but so much more. I spent almost every day with her for the past 4 years. I would go over every night and we would talk about our days and watch our favorite tv shows together like Create TV. We would even cook together. One time, we made an whole meat loaf together with her wonderful sides that she's made her whole life, and she showed me every step on how to make it as delicious as it was. It took us all day but I very much enjoyed her company. I will never forget that day. She was such a great roll model and her view on things were so inspirational. I loved listening to her stories, her advice, or even what was bothering her that day. Reading her book was an amazing impact. Coming in her house every day seeing her precious smile and her sweet spirit always put me in the happiest mood. I’ll never forget that day when we watched The Sound of Music while eating kettle corn in her living room, she got to tell me everywhere she’s been through that movie and stories of what she’s gone through there in Austria.
I could go on and on about all the memories I have of her. She was one of the most special blessings I’ve ever had in my life. I’m so blessed to have had the time I did with such an awesome person. She was an angel from heaven. Her love, sweet spirit, gentle but tough personality, smile, laughter, knowledge, style, faith will never be forgotten. I already really miss her, she was so so special.
Ms Rose I love you. ❤️

How do you find the words to write about someone who shaped your life since birth? I am so blessed to have called this beautiful woman My Gangay. Your face, your smile, your wit....just lit up my life. I am not sure how we manage to move forward when a part of us is gone. However, you are always a part of us, you are our very DNA. Your teachings will live on in all of us. I will miss our talks, making you laugh, and you shaking your head at me for being silly or too loud. Thank you Gangay for being here for us no matter what. Thank you Gangay for making me a better human being. Thank you Gangay for giving me such a beautiful life to share with our Maxily. Thank you Gangay for always loving me unconditionally when I didn't even love myself. I will live for you, I will teach Maximus all of the things you taught me and the lessons we learned together. Thank you for always making me "HAPPY" and I will love you mostest forever.
Eternally yours....until we meet again my beautiful Gangay. I love you so much it hurts. -Michelle
