Thelma Louise Newman

June 21, 1921 – May 4, 2020
Obituary of Thelma Louise Newman
IN THE CARE OF

Eubank Funeral Home & Haven of Memories Memorial Park

Mrs. Thelma Louise Newman passed while sleeping peacefully on May 4, 2020 in Canton, Texas. Mrs. Newman was born on June 21, 1921 in Midlothian, Texas, to Alfred Taylor Holt and Dora Lusk Garner Holt.

Her life was a living example of one of her favorite Bible verses, Ephesians 4:32 — “And be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as God also forgave you in Christ.” —

Mrs. Newman was a dedicated mother first and foremost. She treasured her children and embraced every moment with them. She especially loved her role as the grandmother, “Nana.” She had a vivacious personality, with an infectious laugh, an ever-present twinkle in her eye, and always made people around her feel warm and welcomed.

Alongside her grandchildren, at the ranch, Nana would be carefully hoisted, by her husband Lowell, in the bucket of the front-end loader, to pick wild blackberries along the fence-line to bake one of her famous blackberry cobblers.

Not one grandchild can think of Nana without thinking of her quick wit, her beautiful smile and of course, those famous fried apricot or apple pies for breakfast. Nana was embraced by everyone. Her intelligence ran the family cattle ranch, and her love of the daily cross word puzzles kept her mind sharp up until her final years.

Miss Thelma was an active and involved member of the First Baptist Church of Canton, where she sang in the choir for many years. She loved to sing and did so even in the final week of her life.

Mrs. Newman is preceded in death by her loving husband of 67 years, Lowell Newman; son, Lowell Wayne Newman; daughter, Beverly Gail Newman-Cox; grandson, Kevin Paul Warren; one brother and seven sisters.

Mrs. Newman is survived by her sister, Kathlyn Adams of Greenville; her son Don Newman of Rockwall; her daughter Carolyn Newman of Dallas; and her 12 loving grandchildren: Stephanie Newman, Lowell (Bubba) Newman, Amy Bagwell, Shannon Hammers, Kent Newman, Robin Maher, Joshua Warren, Jason Warren, Jamie Warren, Adam Yablon, Aaron Yablon, and Ashley Yablon.

She was also blessed with 21 loving and cherished great-grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren, and many nephews and nieces, all who loved her dearly, and will never forget her tenacity, wit, charm, grace and constant love and caring.

Mrs. Thelma Louise Newman will be always remembered, forever cherished, and eternally loved.
