Services for William (Bill) Allison Loven, 84, of Canton, will be held 12 pm Friday, October 23, 2020, at Eubank Funeral Home in Canton with Pastor Mike Roberson, John Eury and Pat Spruiell officiating.
Bill was born February 14, 1936, the oldest child of Ira David Loven and Willie Mae Wilemon Loven in Myrtle Springs, Texas. He passed away October 20, 2020 in Canton, Texas.
He was raised in Myrtle Springs and attended school in Myrtle Springs and Wills Point, graduating high school in 1954. He then continued his education at TVCC, TJC, and (now) UT Arlington. Bill was twice called to serve his country as a helicopter crewman based in both the United States and Germany. Bill was a self-employed businessman most of his life working in the insurance and automobile industries for more than 60 years. Bill served as a Boy Scout master and was the first president of the Canton Youth Baseball Association. He also served as the Chamber of Commerce president and Canton Lions Club president and president of the Texoma Life Underwriters Association. He was a charter member of both the Van Zandt Country Club and VFW Post 9171.
He was saved and baptized at the Myrtle Springs First Baptist Church in 1950. The following year his family moved their membership to First Baptist Church in Canton where Bill has remained a member.
Bill was known for his crossword and trivia knowledge. He loved Jeopardy and watching with Patty was a daily ritual followed by Wheel of Fortune (which he considered to be rigged). Bill was a fan of all sports and attended many baseball, football, and basketball games, along with NASCAR races and golf tournaments. He played sandlot baseball and later softball – until middle age and injuries slowed him down. His love for animals was what he considered his best quality. He always said all his favorite dogs would be waiting for him in heaven.
Bill is survived by the love of his life and best friend, wife Patty Chaney Loven. He is also survived by his sister LaRea Miller, brother Barry and Janis Loven, granddaughter Audrey Cockerham Commons, grandson Edward Thomas, great grandsons Kyle and Chad Cockerham, and sister-in-law Linda Loven. Surviving also are stepdaughters T.J. Young, Ashley and Andy Tibbett, and grandchildren Collin, Ace, Madison, and Gracie. And of course, his loving dogs Duke, Ellie and Heidi.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Dean Loven, and daughter Amy Loven.
Burial will be at Myrtle Springs Cemetery alongside many of his maternal family members. Bill was active in the cemetery and served as vice-president for more than forty years and only missed one Decoration Day meeting during all this time. He even showed up on some workdays.
Memorials may be made to his favorite projects – the Texas Lions Camp or the Van Zandt County Library where he served as a board member for many years.
Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
