Abbie was born on July 22, 1929 in Flint, Michigan to Mary Victoria (Warren) and Harry Mince. Upon graduation from Flint Central High School, he began a lifelong career at Michigan Bell. After 35 years he retired from Michigan Bell, and he moved to Florida and worked as a teacher’s aide at Trafalgar Middle School. Upon retirement from Trafalgar Middle School, he took care of his grandson Noah. He was an active volunteer at Gulf Elementary and Trafalgar for over a decade.
Abbie is preceded in death by children Thomas Mince and Michael Mince (Joni) and their mother Janet. He is survived by his wife Diane Mince, his two children Rob Mince (Suzanne) and Jeanne Stratton (Rob), his brother, Bill Mince (Pat) and many nieces and nephews. He was a loving grandfather to Stephanie and Aaron Mince, Adam Mince and Jordan and Noah Stratton.
Abbie enjoyed listening to and singing gospel music and was a member of the “Melody Boys” singing quartet. He was an avid reader and traveler. His desire to travel took him to Ireland, Africa, England, France, Peru, Germany, and Israel to name a few. He loved horses and raised them in Michigan and was proud of the pole barn he and his boys built to house the horses. Abbie was always a people person and his gentle spirit and kind words made him a favorite of the ladies.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, September 25th at Coral Ridge Cemetery at 6 pm, in Cape Coral, Florida. There will also be a memorial mass on Saturday, October 12 at 11:00 am at St. Andrews Catholic Church in Cape Coral, FL.
