Ira Sullivan (family of)

Al Wilensky was Ira Sullivan’s earliest Miami fan, then friend. Their friendship dates from 1963 and the old Banyan club in Fort Lauderdale where Ira was playing. Al came in with his date (June) and not expecting much from a previously ‘honk’ club he was startled to hear his kind of music, jazz as only Ira Sullivan could play it, so surprised he fell backwards off his barstool. As he got up and returned to the bar Al never lost interest in Ira’s career. Al always remembered details from their escapades from long ago whenever they talked on the phone. How tragically sad to know that’s Al’s life was stolen by a felon. Our family is shocked to hear this story. We pray for Al’s’ family to be comforted by the memories of Al’s goodness, warmth and generosity - he was a good man - the best man
-the Sullivans
The pic is part of a painting that Carlena(Ira’s wife) painted. Al Wilensky is included in that painting he’s at the family table leaning over the artist - it’s at a club in Hollywood, FL- One Night Stan’s.

Memories of you will always be with me. You were a wonderful Father and friend and you became a welcome part of my family. Your kindness knew no bounds. No one was turned away without a helping hand. You will be forever missed at all family gatherings and so sorry no one got to tell you goodbye. I pray God bless you and keep you in his arms.

Albert, I remember our many talks and how you were going to make it to 100. You kicked Lymphoma's butt like a kid on a school yard. You walked away from it like it never happened. Albert, you had such an intentional spirit in the sense that you breathed in deeply all of the relationships you had. You are the kind of friend a friend would want. Thoughtful to remember special occasions and I always looked forward to your card in the mail. Yours, I know, the post man would always deliver. It would be funny but sweet. When you loved someone, you loved them thoroughly. This was best witnessed in your role as father and grandfather. Your friends could count on you in good times and times of trouble. You would be equally charged to sit quiet in a hospital room sitting vigil or fighting in a court room at city hall. In all the years, the fight and fire had never wained from your spirit.  Albert, your knowledge of wine, opera, and art was impressive. I often enjoyed when you would sit after a family dinner and hum softly to yourself an opera overture. I'd often sit a little closer so I could hear you better. Your humility was top notch. You were not one to blast your accolades. You were immensely private when charitable and in helping others. We only learned of your boxing experience after you were inducted into the hall of fame in 2017. You were easy company and we should have been able to have your birthday party this year and every year until 100. Just like you had planned. Albert, you are a kind and thoughtful soul that remained in the moment as you lived it. Our family is grievously saddened from your passing. Somehow, we know it will not be the same without you.
