

Anita Maria Gonzalez, 68, of Cape Coral, Florida was called home to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on February 14, 2026. A woman of vibrant spirit and genuine kindness. Anita’s life was a testimony of faith, service, friendship, and steadfast devotion to her family.
Born on February 19, 1957, in Richmond, Indiana to Charles and Josephine Porfidio. Anita carried the values of love, faith, and hard work with her throughout her life.
She had a 26-year career as a preschool teacher at Evangelical Christian School, where she nurtured and inspired countless young learners.
Beyond her career, faith was the cornerstone of Anita’s life. A devoted member of Grace Baptist Church, she served faithfully alongside her beloved husband through Riverside Prison Ministry. She lived out her faith daily — not only in word but in action — offering encouragement, compassion, and hope to those around her.
Anita was the heart of her home and happiest when surrounded by family. She especially cherished the holidays earning the affectionate title of the “queen of gift-giving,” always selecting thoughtful presents that made others feel deeply loved. In addition to spending time with her family, she enjoyed shopping and was a “home” champion of Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune.
She is survived by her devoted husband Gustavo Gonzalez; her children, Darcie Hazelton (Alvin Hazelton), Carmen Gonzalez, and Daniel Gonzalez and her cherished granddaughter Josephine Hazelton. She is also survived by her sister, Angela Richter whose husband Michael, preceded Anita in death, as well as many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service celebrating Anita’s life will be held on Friday, February 27, 2026, at Coral Ridge Funeral Home & Cemetery (950 Chiquita Blvd S, Cape Coral, FL 33991). Visitation will take place from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., followed by the funeral service at 1:00 p.m. with burial immediately thereafter.
Anita’s legacy of faith, love, and kindness will remain in the lives of all who knew and loved her.
