Anita J. O'Connor, most recently of Fort Myers, went to be with the Lord on November 12, 2018 after a long brave battle with leukemia and other conditions. She was surrounded and embraced by her 5 children and their families through to the end. Anita was born on January 24, 1935 in New York, NY to Robert Watson and Mary (Fazekas) Watson. She is one of 5 siblings preceded in death by her brother Robert Watson and sister Irene Lukens (Harold) she is survived by sisters Mary Lou Meyerhoff (Jim) of Washington and Irma Lentz of New Hampshire. Anita was the most loving mother and is deeply cherished and forever loved by her 5 surviving children Sharon Fahey (son in law Dennis), Maureen Oravec ( son in law Greg and grandson Matthew), Therese Pope Guerriero (son in law Gustavo and grandson Christian, granddaughter Katherine and great-grandson Brydon), Mary Ocasio (son in law Frank and granddaughter Megan), Raymond O'Connor (daughter in law Debra and grandchildren Raymond, Luke and Sarah) as well as many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.
As a young bride, Anita opened a School of Dance following a career as a dancer which included performing as a Rockette at Radio City Music Hall. She served her church and community throughout her life including the Altar and Rosary Society, Ancient Order of Hibernians and Right to Life. Anita worked tirelessly as a dedicated active mother in raising her children at the same time as being a successful business owner/operator along with her husband, of numerous successful businesses most recently The Coronet Motel in Pompano Beach Fl.
Anita was a beautiful and pure soul who was generous and radiant, a shining light to all who knew her. She will be especially missed by her children and family. Our mother has left an indelible track on our hearts and soul and we will aspire to follow her example in life- to always show love and to be His hands and feet on this earth. We look forward to being reunited in heaven.
