Born on August 5, 1942, in Ray, Ohio to Gleneth and Lucille Darby, Kay moved to Marysville early in life and graduated from Marysville High School. It was there she met her high school sweetheart and future husband, Vernon Terry Glassburn. Their love story spanned nearly 65 years of marriage—a testament to enduring devotion and partnership.
Kay dedicated 22 years of her professional life as an Assistant Librarian at the Marysville Public Library. In that role, she became a familiar and beloved face to generations of readers. Kay's presence was a cornerstone of the library community—welcoming patrons with warmth and kindness. She had a gift for making everyone feel like a friend and was known for her grace, elegance, and radiant smile.
Outside of work, Kay embraced life with joy and enthusiasm. A golfer and traveler, she cherished beach vacations and especially treasured the time spent at their second home on Lake Erie. Kay adored the Ohio State Buckeyes and looked forward to college football season every year. Holidays were particularly special to her—times filled with cooking, baking, laughter, and family traditions—and she was known for her delicious hickory nut cake.
Kay’s faith was central to her life. In recent years, she attended Cape Coral First United Methodist Church, where she found spiritual nourishment and community.
Kay is survived by her loving husband, Terry Glassburn; their children Doug (Jennie) Glassburn and Leslie (Jeff) Berridge; grandchildren Eleyna (Chris) Ross, Dylan (Megan) Berridge, and Nick Glassburn; her sister Donna Slagle; and four great-grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sisters Peg Wilson, Joyce Schmid, and Jean Graham.
A Gathering to Celebrate Kay's Life is scheduled for Saturday, November 15, 2025 from 11:00 AM - 2:00 PM. Her memorial services will be celebrated inside the Remembrance Event Center at Coral Ridge Funeral Home, 950 Chiquita Boulevard S., Cape Coral, FL 33990, (239) 283-0540.
