Axel was raised in New Jersey and was a proud graduate of Hamilton West High School. From an early age, he had a natural ability and passion for working with his hands. After high school, he followed that passion and became a technician, a career that suited his ability to figure things out, fix what was broken, and never be afraid to get his hands dirty.
Sixteen years ago, Axel made Florida his home. He began working for Crowther Roofing in Fort Myers, where he built not only a career, but friendships and relationships with the people he worked alongside.
Axel was one of those people who left an impression wherever he went. He had a personality that was uniquely his own—a great sense of humor, a quick wit, and a way of making people laugh, often when they least expected it. Anyone who knew Axel probably heard his favorite word more times than they could count: “ACTUALLY.” It was simply Axel. A little word that became part of who he was and one of those things that will forever bring a smile to the faces of those who knew and loved him.
Then there was Axel’s infamous, proverbial chokehold on anyone who tried to leave. Saying goodbye to Axel was never a quick affair. You could have your car running in the driveway, ready to go, only to find yourself still sitting there an hour later because Axel always had just one more thing to say. One more story, one more thought, one more “ACTUALLY.” And no matter how many times you said, “Axel, I have to go!” somehow, you were still there, laughing, listening, and not going anywhere anytime soon. It was just another one of his special gifts, making a simple goodbye into a memory all its own. Looking back, those seemingly endless conversations are now the moments his loved ones would give anything to have just one more time.
He had a genuine love for cars and motorcycles and an appreciation for music that was woven into his life. He loved the freedom of being on two wheels, the sound of an engine, and the experiences that came with the open road.
Axel was also a proud member of the Thunderguards Motorcycle Club. To Axel, the Thunderguards were so much more than a motorcycle club, they were his brothers. The friendships, brotherhood, rides, stories, and memories he shared with them became an important and meaningful part of his life. His brothers held a special place in his heart, and he held an equally special place in theirs.
But beneath the humor, the motorcycles, the music, and the tough exterior was a kind and gentle soul.
Axel was a “grandma’s boy” through and through, and he carried a deep love for his family throughout his life. He was the kind of person who would give someone the shirt off his back if they needed it. If someone needed help, Axel was often the person who would show up. His generosity was not something he had to think about, it was simply who he was.
Above all else, Axel was a father.
His two daughters were his greatest pride and joy and held the most precious place in his heart. Lola Delaney Vader and Alyanna Rosalyn Vader were the center of his world. The love Axel had for his girls was unmistakable. He loved being their dad, and there was no greater role in his life than being their father.
Axel's life was far too short, but it was filled with people, passions, laughter, friendships, family, and memories that will never be forgotten. He will be remembered for his kindness, his humor, his generous spirit, his love of music, cars and motorcycles, his unmistakable personality, and most of all, the love he gave so freely to the people around him.
Axel was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Ramon Torres, and maternal grandfather, Warren Cuff Sr.
He leaves behind his loving fiancé, Jeni Robeson; his beloved daughters, Lola Delaney Vader and Alyanna Rosalyn Vader; his stepchildren, Dorian Davis and Harlie Daniels; his granddaughters, Penelope Davis and Amelia Davis; his mother, Carolyn Vader Gillis, and his Stepdad, Keith Gillis; his father, Axel Torres, and Stepmom, Tonya; his siblings, Adrian Torres and Katarina Torres; his step-sister, Nakiya Gillis Finn; his niece, Saniyyah Kennedy; maternal grandmother, Charlotte Cuff; paternal grandmother, Leonilda Torres; great-grandmother, Felicita Rodriguez; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members, and friends.
Axel's sudden passing leaves a space that can never be filled. He will be deeply missed by his daughters, stepchildren, granddaughters, fiancé, parents, grandparents, siblings, stepsister, niece, extended family, friends, his brothers, and everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
His memory will live on in the stories told about him, the laughter he left behind, the music he loved, the rumble of motorcycles, the friendships he treasured, and every mile ridden in his honor.
There will always be another story about Axel.
Another laugh.
Another “ACTUALLY.”
And there will always be the love of a son, a father, a stepfather, a grandfather, a grandson, a brother, a stepbrother, a fiancé, an uncle, a friend, and a ThunderGuard brother on the road that will never be forgotten.
Gone too soon but never forgotten.
Ride on, Axel.
